Nursery School pupils are housed in their three own buildings, independent from the rest of the school facilities. Two of these buildings house 2-year-old pupils and the other one, newly constructed, 1-year-old children. All these buildings are connected and designed as an educational environment aimed at children this age, meeting the maximum security, hygiene and space measures. As a whole, our Nursery School comprises 7 classrooms, a canteen, a Multi-purpose Room, a private garden, and so on. All these spaces are multifunctional for our community to make the most of them.
The minimum age to register for the Nursery School is 10 months old (children who turn 10 on September 1st at the latest).
SCIENTIFIC METHODOLOGY CV-XXI
This teaching methodology is based on the creation of a freedom framework which provides the child with the appropriate experiences for their stage of development, taking into account the human tendencies, sensitive periods and characteristics of the child’s brain at this age.
For this purpose, we create a natural and stimulating environment, where the children can develop themselves through self-discovery. This environment promotes personal autonomy thanks to the use of scientifically designed manipulatives, which are the means to guide the child in an active learning process where a continuous exploration of the world around them is promoted. The boys and girls are the protagonists of their own growth.
All this is set in an atmosphere of affection and care which stimulates, motivates and benefits the development of the child’s skills and potentialities.
“The child, in fact, once he feels sure of himself, will no longer seek the approval of authority after every step.” M. Montessori.
In Nursery School and Preschool Spanish and Basque are equally used. We work on the comprehension and expression skills in both languages, prioritizing the adaptation and communicative approach of the language. We respect the teacher-language awareness, each teacher always communicating with the child in the same language, as we are aware that the latter absorbs the language via an emotional bond with the adult.
English is also present as there is a daily English lesson in all Nursery School and Preschool grades.
Glenn Doman’s Infant Stimulation Programme with bits of intelligence and physical development stimulation are worked on a daily basis.
In our School, in Nursery School, 30 lessons are given every week.
UNIFORM
The use of the School’s uniform is compulsory. It consists of:
The shoes (with Velcro) and warm clothes can be chosen by the child’s family. No specific garment is compulsory.
TIMETABLE
The starting time is flexible from 8 to 10 a.m. and so is the finishing time from 4 to 6 p.m.
For pedagogical reasons, we believe that the most suitable timetable is that from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., when the second bus service for Preschool (ages 3 to 6) and Primary Education is provided.
Choice of:
part-time school hours (without lunch). From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
part-time school hours (with lunch). From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
full-time school hours. It includes lunch, afternoon nap and afternoon snack.
*A child’s timetable must not be longer than 8 hours.
CALENDAR
Nursery School calendar is the same as that of the rest of the centre, having some extra days in September for the child’s adjustment, plus three more days at Christmas and Easter time, as well as the chance to continue coming to the School from the last school day to mid-July.
SERVICES
Nursery School pupils can use the school bus service. On these buses they travel on secured government-approved child safety seats suitable for their age, also provided with seatbelts.
Moreover, lunch, afternoon snack and afternoon nap service is offered. Both the lunch and snack are homemade in the School bearing in mind all specific allergic conditions. We monthly inform the families of the menu, which is designed and examined according to the nutritional needs children this age have.
The School supplies all the necessary material for hygiene, feeding and sleep: nappies, bibs, sheets, etc. Families do not need to contribute with any of this material.
