The Department of Psychology has the duty of giving counselling and support to the teachers, families and students in all the aspects which are related to their personal and academic development, according to our School’s Mission Statement, enabling our students to develop their competences and potentialities to the maximum.
In order to do this, from Nursery School we perform analysis and psychometric tests on basic abilities and aptitudes for the acquisition of skills. This helps the early detection of possible difficulties, as well as intellectual giftedness.
In the presence of difficulties or specific needs, previously informing the family, we carry out an individual diagnostic evaluation following our own CV Diagnosis Model, which we have developed in every stage and contemplates all the variables (neuropsychological, cognitive and adaptive) that influence our students’ growth at all levels: affective, emotional, social and academic.
Once the diagnostic evaluation is done, we agree with the family and the form tutor on an intervention by areas, so that the student’s development in the class is guaranteed.
In 2006, an Online School for Parents was created with the aim of addressing the families’ constant demand for counselling. Besides holding three face-to-face meetings a year, the parents can personally send their queries by email and access the contents which are updated monthly (Library, Useful links and articles related to diverse educational aspects).
In Secondary Education we coordinate with the form tutors to elaborate and develop individual and group Tutorial Action, with special focus on Career Guidance.
It is from the 4th year of Secondary Education that this scope gains a bigger role and the students do a sequence of activities and reflection exercises aimed at analyzing their personal and academic abilities, expectations, vocation, professional values, and so on. The students in Post-Compulsory Secondary Education who have already progressed in this analysis and decision-making process, give guidance to their younger peers in the last year of Compulsory Secondary Education, by explaining the diverse branches and electives in Bachillerato.
Over the two years of Bachillerato, we work to help the students become familiar with the university and professional worlds. Apart from the Career Guidance Fair different faculties of the University of the Basque Country and all the nearby schools attend to, we participate in the practical activities organized by the university, we visit companies from different sectors and we invite professors of various fields to give dissemination sessions on science. Without a doubt, those who get our current students’ warmest reception are our former students (now in university), who often come to take part in master classes and career guidance lectures.
